Not sure why I feel compelled to add these last bananas that I painted in my “daily painting” series. For posterity, I guess. I believe it was good practice, that any painting– whether done realistically or not–is teaching me. I have a better feel for the paint (and inks) on certain surfaces, a better sense of what I can do with and without a brush. I know this subject much better. A friend told me yesterday she didn’t much care for the banana paintings. I understand. A banana. Ho hum. But I think studies like this help me see better, give me practice in design and color and in creating texture. I’m about to start the daily practice again, unsure how I will go about it this time. I’ve been unable to paint freely for a while. We had friend and family here recently, and now we are helping care for my husband’s 91-year-old mother (she and I fooled around with watercolors together today!). I just finished creating a book cover for a friend (a new and exciting experience) and I bowed out of another project. Also, I was dismissed from jury duty as of yesterday, so I do feel liberated and ready for a fresh start–many fresh starts.
